An Ever-Growing Resource: Our Outcomes Database
The ongoing development of our Outcomes Database is key to ensuring the best-possible quality of life for infants we care for today and in the future.
To help us evaluate and refine the care we deliver, we have collected and analyzed the outcomes of all Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) patients since 1979, and now have data on over 34,000 newborns. We also share our outcomes for Very Low Birthweight (VLBW) infants with the Vermont Oxford Network (VON), along with 503 hospitals. This network receives data on about 40,000 VLBW infants annually.
Outcomes Summary Report
The following report deals with expected outcomes for VLBW infants - those weighing 501 to 1500 grams (1 lb., 1 oz. to 3 lbs., 3.5 o.z.), corresponding to a gestational age of 23 to 29 weeks. The report includes information from our Outcomes database, and for comparison, the aggregated outcomes from the hospitals that contribute to the VON. What you will see are averages. While the data does not predict the outcome of any individual infant, it does provide some idea of the usual outcomes for VLBW infants.
